What do I need: 

The cake

  • 250 grams salted butter
  • 200 ml milk
  • 5 eggs (large)
  • 360 grams caster sugar
  • 1,5 tbsp vanilla sugar or 1,5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 60 grams cacao powder
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 360 grams wheat flour

The frosting

  • 150 grams salted butter
  • 150 ml strong coffee
  • 80 grams cacao
  • 1,5 tbsp vanilla sugar or 1,5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 300 grams icing sugar
  • grated coconut (for topping)

How to

The cake

Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celcius (top and bottom heat).

  • Cover your oven pan with baking paper, oven pan about 30 x 40 cm.
  • Melt the butter in a saucepan. Pour in the milk and then set the pan aside to cool.
  • In a bowl, whisk the eggs and caster sugar on medium speed until very white and fluffy.
  • Mix the vanilla sugar, cocoa, baking powder and flour in another bowl, then sift it into the egg whisk.
  • Gently fold everything together into a smooth batter using a spatula.
  • Add the butter milk as well and continue mixing until you have a smooth and fine batter without lumps.
  • Pour the batter into the pan and bake it in the middle of the oven for about 20 minutes. Let the cake cool before spreading the frosting!


  • Melt the butter and let it cool.
  • Then mix the butter with the rest of the ingredients into a smooth and spreadable batter.
  • Spread the icing evenly over the cake.
  • Garnish with coconut flakes.
  • Allow the icing to set a little before cutting the cake into pieces and serving.
  • Wrap the cake in plastic or store it in an airtight container before putting it in the fridge to keep it juicy and fresh for a long time!
